Sakeliga will tomorrow, 5 December 2018, host an urgent summit for organisations opposed to expropriation without compensation. The summit takes place the day after Parliament is set to debate the recommendations of the Constitutional Review Committee.
Several of the most significant organisations opposed to expropriation without compensation – including NGOs and political parties – will attend the event. The following fourteen organisations have so far confirmed participation on 5 December: ACDP; AfriForum; Afrikanerbond; AgriSA; COPE; DA; Dear South Africa; Free Market Foundation; FW de Klerk Foundation; Johannesburg Attorneys’ Association; Sakeliga; Solidarity; TAU SA; VF+.
“The summit is called in light of the new phase that this expropriation debate now enters, given the recommendations of the Constitutional Review Committee. Therefore we are specifically hosting the summit on the day after Parliament is set to debate the matter,” says Piet le Roux, CEO of Sakeliga.
Le Roux continues: “The purpose of the urgent summit is for key stakeholders opposed to expropriation without compensation to discuss the latest developments and state their positions. This summit is the second of its kind this year and organised as a follow-up to the initial summit, hosted by Sakeliga in March, shortly after the passing of the original motion in Parliament.”
During the open session of the summit each of the participating organisations will have the podium to state their respective positions. During the closed session discussion will take place subject to the Chatham House Rule. The summit will end with a media conference and lunch.
