Expropriation without compensation undermines constitutional legitimacy
“The Constitutional Review Committee’s recommendation that the Constitution be amended to allow expropriation without compensation undermines South Africa’s constitutional legitimacy. The reason is that confiscation in the sense contemplated by Parliament is an affront to the very idea of constitutionalism.” So says Piet le Roux, CEO of Sakeliga upon the announcement by the Committee of its recommendations.
Le Roux says that Sakeliga will continue to oppose the amendment of the constitution, since the proposed amendments remain fundamentally unacceptable.

Sakeliga negotiates unique legal assistance for members against land occupations
In light of the sharp increase in illegal land occupations, Sakeliga negotiated a special discount for its Company and Platinum members. These members of Sakeliga receive about 40% off the legal costs of an urgent interdict, which is required for private security to act against land occupiers. The special discount is available from Hurter Spies Attorneys, of whom we have made use in the past. Where advocate and attorney costs in such urgent interdict can easily reach R50 000, it is available to Sakeliga’s Company and Platinum members at a fixed rate of only R30 000.

We know R30 000 is still a lot of money, and if the police did their job it would not have been necessary.
